2084 – Housing Support Worker

To work within a team to deliver an efficient and effective high quality Integrated Housing Support Service in line with the Housing Support Grant.  The post holder will actively work to prevent homelessness, arrange secure accommodation and ensure tenancy sustainability for our clients.  The team will be required to support vulnerable people to address their criminal and offending history, whilst assisting them to deal with the multiple problems they often face, including debt, unemployment, tenancy management, substance misuse, violence, domestic violence, sexual violence and mental health issues, this list is not exhaustive.


ACCOUNTABILITIES – Statement of the main areas of responsibility

Duties shall include but not be limited to the following:


Relationship Manager

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Commissions and Monitoring Officers;
  • Attend Integrated Offender Management (IOM), Multi-agency Public Protection Arrangement (MAPPA) and Wales Integrated Serious and dangerous Offender Management (WISDOM) meetings on a regular and consistent basis;
  • Develop and maintain strong links with partner agencies including the Probation Service, Police and Local Police Community Support officers;
  • Attend joint meetings between NACRO and Hafan Cymru as and when required to review service delivery and develop best practice.
  • Feedback clients’ views to support the development and improvement of the service.



  • Assist with the accurate completion of monitoring reports within agreed time scales;
  • Complete case studies for Commissioners, demonstrating the positive progression of clients who work with Hafan Cymru.
  • Ensure that all client records are clear, maintained to a high standard and updated within a timely manner, taking in to account confidentiality and GDPR requirements;


Housing Management

  • Have a strong working knowledge and clear understanding of the Housing First Model and Housing Support Grant;
  • Ensure property inspections are completed in line with the tenancy contracts, i.e. private rental, social housing, general needs.  Working in conjunction with partner housing associations ensuring their policies are adhered to.



  • To work flexibly by providing cover as required in the event of staff shortages, ensuring that each client is provided with the required level of support in line with individual needs.
  • Perform any reasonable request as given by the Senior Management Team.
  • Carry out the above with due regard to all the Association’s policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities and Customer Services.
  • Ensure that compliance with Data Protection legislation is applied at all times.
  • Establish, develop and maintain an effective working relationship with all work colleagues to ensure an integrated contribution to the Association’s objectives.
  • Comply with the Association’s Personal Conduct Policy by behaving in a professional, respectful manner at all times.
  • Take part in the appropriate training required to carry out the duties of the post and enhance personal development.




·        Working knowledge of Diversionary Schemes and Prison Pathways and an good understanding of the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and the Criminal Justice process;

·        Experience of dealing with clients with complex needs i.e. substance misuse and poor mental health;

·        Good understanding of Health & Safety, Quality Assurance and safeguarding;

·        Excellent communication skills, highly articulate both verbally and written;

·        A full driving licence and car available for work;

·        Previous experience of On-call.




·        Previous experience of working within a housing department and/or social housing;

·        Good working knowledge of tenancy issues and housing law;

·        To be comfortable with everyday welsh conversations and discussions;

·        Knowledge of social housing, local authority housing regulations, Registered Social Landlord`s and knowledge of the private rental market;

·        Knowledge of the Department of Work and Pensions processes, including Discretionary Housing Funds, Discretionary Assistance Fund, debt management, welfare benefits, Universal Credit and other financial support;

·        Clear understanding of the Dyfed Powys Police (DPP) and Crown prosecution Services (CPS) witness care procedures.
